Competition Rules and Regulations

• Modified WKF Rules apply (Flag System). All Divisions will be Single Elimination. 
• Beginner & Novice Divisions (Basic Kata, Pinan or Heian Kata only) may repeat the same kata in every round.
• Intermediate Divisions (Tokui Open Kata) must perform a different Kata in the “Medal” round. 
• All Advanced divisions of every age category MUST perform a different Kata in each round. Once performed a Kata may not be repeated. 

Beginner: 10th kyu, 9th kyu, 8th kyu (White, Orange, Yellow)

Novice: 7th kyu, 6th kyu, 5th kyu, 4th kyu (Blue, Purple, Green)

Intermediate: 3rd kyu, 2nd kyu, 1st kyu (Brown)

Advanced: (Black)

**Divisions with less than 5 competitors may be combined at the discretion of the Tournament Director

• Loss of control will result in disqualification
• All weapons will be subject to inspection by Officials 

WKF rules apply with the following modifications: 

• All contestants must wear a clean karate uniform. Mandatory equipment is mouthpiece, groin protector (males), and standard blue and red WKF fist guards.  Shin protectors are optional.  Competitors 14 years and younger are required to wear headgear. 
• All divisions, there will be NO FACE CONTACT ALLOWED, except for Advanced divisions only and only “LIGHT CONTACT” will be permitted for Advanced divisions. 

Scoring: 

• Yuko: 1 point is awarded for Tsuki (straight punch) or Uchi (strike) to a scoring area.
• Waza-Ari: 2 points is awarded for CHUDAN kicks.
• Ippon: 3 points is awarded for JODAN kicks or any techniques against an opponent whose any part of the body other than the feet is in contact with the mat.
• Advanced divisions (S-38 & S42) 8-point difference, all other divisions are 8-point ceiling.
• All Matches are 2 minutes effective time, except for advance divisions S-38 & S42.
• Adult Female & Male Advance divisions (S-38 & S-42) – 3 minutes effective time.

Penalties:

• CHUI Warning: is given, up to three times, for smaller infractions that do not diminish the other Competitor’s chances of winning.
• HANSOKU CHUI: Warning of disqualification in the event of further infractions. Is given for more serious infractions that reduces the other Competitor’s chances of winning, or to a Competitor for any further infraction if three CHUI has already been given.
•  HANSOKU: Disqualification from the bout. This is the penalty of disqualification following a very serious infraction or when HANSOKU CHUI has already been given. 

In all divisions, parents are expected to be in control of their children. Any contestant found not adhering to the disciplined behavior required by the spirit of karate-do, or any one person regardless of age, who does not follow the rules of the tournament or basic etiquette and respect, will be immediately expelled from the tournament and No refunds will be given.

• No Coaches or Parents allowed in the Staging area. Only Athletes that have been called into the staging area will be permitted.  
• Only Coaches with a Coaching Pass will be permitted on the Tournament floor. 
• Walkway in front of the bleachers must remain clear.
